July 4, 2024About time for an update! We had a very excellent week, I’m very excited to share the really cool things we’ve been doing!
A while ago we went out to a little fishing town called Nessebar.
It’s a really cool place, lots of old churches, mostly left in ruins. Really beautiful location right on the Black sea too.
This week we had the amazing opportunity to visit some of the members in Varna and have dinner with them.
One of them collects coins, he had quite the assortment of old Bulgarian coins, and even a few American coins! I was impressed!
We’ve been able to find a couple service projects. Every time we’ve gone looking, we’ve found somewhere to help out.
One of the coolest things we did was help collect and sort bottle caps.
People all over Bulgaria collect them and bring them to this company that recycles them and uses the proceeds to buy medical supplies for hospitals. Pretty awesome.
I got a new companion! His name is Elder Wadsworth, a very talented pianist! Looking forward to working with him.
Easter was really awesome. Last year, I told you all about the really awesome traditions, including the phrase “Christ is Risen” Which is used as a greeting on Easter Sunday!
Again had a great celebration of the Savior’s resurrection with the Saints here. Their faith is inspiring, and the symbolism in their traditions is fascinating!
The Orthodox Easter date is always nearer to the March equinox because it is observed on the first Sunday following the first full moon after Passover. This year, Orthodox Easter was on Sunday, May 5, 2024
From battling Eggs…
…to Easter Bread called ‘Kozonak’ We had a wonderful time.
We’ve had a variety of adventures, going to Burgas, helping members carry furniture up 7 flights of stairs, visiting friends in the small towns outside of Varna.
This guy had a couple Turkeys just wandering around his backyard! Really hard to teach the Restoration with birds constantly interrupting you, but we felt the Spirit of the Lord nonetheless!
Recently Bulgaria celebrated the Holiday of Learning! It’s actually one of the biggest holidays in Bulgaria.
They celebrate the two monks Saint Kiril and Metodi who invented the cyrllic alphabet.
People hold fast to the idea that they were Bulgarian, and the holiday is celebrated with a massive parade through the city of all the schools and universities! It was crazy, so many people!
We recently had a Branch Conference, it went really well. The new district presidency attended and we were all edified by their teachings.
Plus, I got to see a few of my favorite people again, always a bonus.
Anyways, a short update covering an insane amount of time!
As the Bulgarians say Keep your Spirits up! The Lord is among us!
