January 30, 2023Week 31 – Celebrate! It’s Baba Marta time!
February 20, 2023This week started off strong!
We had exchanges on Tuesday with the district leader and my old comp, Elder School. We had a Bulgarian lesson, levitated hats, and played Jenga!
We also did missionary work, but that’s besides the point.
Poor Elder Robinson and Elder Newbold got sick so they had to stay home. Other than that, it was a pretty awesome day!
This is our cat LaMichael, we met him on Wednesday.
We see him hanging around our apartment almost everyday now, he’s pretty cute and loves Elder Robinson.
He does not like me however…
Thursday we played chess with our Russian friend Anton!
He’s lived in Bulgaria for a while now. His Bulgarian is around our level so it’s been great to practice with him and finally teach someone who I can understand perfectly!!
Friday saw us setting up… you heard it… A BAPTISMAL FONT! For the second time since 2020, Burgas Branch had a baptism.
Our friend Kader was found all the way back in 2022 and made the commitment to be baptized and come closer to her Heavenly Father!
The baptism was scheduled for Saturday so we needed to set up everything and fill it up! It was crazy!
It’s this crazy tarp thingy held up with a few metal poles. And a cool ladder.
We had a lot of fun trying to fill it up with the tap through a hose and it was crazy.
Saturday the font still wasn’t filled up so we went early to finish the process and heat up the water.
As a reward for all our hard work we got Banista, I got this cool flower looking one called Rositsa su Sirene.
Later that day, I was honored to perform the baptism of Kader. I went into this mission accepting the fact that I might not baptize anyone, might not have any success, but here we are.
It was one of the most amazing moments of my entire mission so far. I cannot express how much joy I felt, and it got me so excited to continue and help others follow in the same footsteps.
Also, the branch has started to call me a ‘Йоан’ (John) Not sure how I feel about being compared to the great Prophet and Baptizer, but it’s sure better than being called ‘Tiny.’
As per mission rules, I was not allowed to watch the super bowl. (President put up with a lot of pleading from the missionaries this week)
But in honor of it, we went and threw a football on the beach. That was a lot of fun! Reminds me of my Tahoe days!!
We ran into LaMichael again too!
We also saw this cool land rover!
Also, the wind is very cold. We got down into negative temps in the heat of the day this week. Not fun.
All in all an amazing week! I wish I could share more about the Baptism, it was so cool!
Looking forward to an amazing week!
All the Best,
Elder Thornton
