November 13, 2022Heyo!
One transfer done, and over 100 days since I’ve started the mission! You could say things are getting serious!
We started the week of right with Sushi and origami at a Japanese restaurant!
I loved all the cranes, and made me want to make some!
Overall we had a pretty average week… a lot of online lessons and some prep for the branch Halloween party!
One of my companions, Elder Mitchell went back to Sofia on special assignment, so for the next few weeks me and Elder School are on our own.
I found out that the ceiling tiles in the church are removable like these ones from the MTC… could be useful for some pranks…
Cool moon is visible from the balcony of our apartment, as compared to…
…the picture my Dad took the same day from Nevada! Looks the exact same, we’re starting to think it’s real…
An amazing sunset over our balcony the next day. I love the deep purple, city silhouette, and moon!! So pretty.
Saturday was a busy day. We volunteered at a Ukrainian refugee shelter called “Втори дом.”
Literal translation is “Second home.”
It’s an old hospital that is being renovated into living spaces. Such an awesome project!
We worked outside cleaning up the yard, and painted a fence.
We will be going back next Saturday to finish moving furniture to the 4th floor…. Unfortunately, there is no elevator.
Also on Saturday we had a Branch Halloween party!! So much fun. We made Apple Cider, yum.
I dressed up as another missionary, Elder Barney.
Fall is here! All the trees are changing color. It’s so pretty along the river!
Immediately following Halloween, it’s Christmas time in Bulgaria! Just kidding. Bulgarians aren’t crazy. *Mostly*
We were filming a video to be posted Dec. 1st and we needed time to edit it. So we put up some decorations!
Sunday we had a great church attendance! We even had a new priest ordained, Ivan, and he blessed the sacrament. It was a great meeting, Despite the Cheerleaders blasting music right outside. Unbeknownst to us, there is a giant marathon that runs through Plovdiv every fall, and the church sits right on the path. And these random cheerleaders just decided to set up right outside. Also police cars blocking the street off with their lights on. It was basically a rave inside the church!! Yikes.
That wraps it up for this week! Looking forward to another great week! Hopefully slightly less Christmas… fingers crossed
Elder Thornton
I guess you could call it a ‘failure’, but I prefer the term ‘learning experience’.

Nathan, you crack me up! “Starting to think it’s real”🤣
Dressed up as a missionary? That’s a good one!
You are too funny !! I love your blog. 100 days? Time is going by isn’t it?
I’m enjoying your blog immensely, Elder Thornton! It makes me happy to see you having success on your mission, even when it is from your ‘learning experiences.’ Never forget that the Lord has promised that, with faith, the Lord has promised to consecrate those for your good! Bless you for your willingness to consecrate this time for the Lord’s work.
Christmas! Already, can I come vist?! Also I love your Halloween costum, I couldn’t even tell it was you! 😂
