October 23, 2022Hey! Hope you had a great weekend!
Tues:
First thing is first: It is true… Bulgarians have “Hamburger pizza.” That is the most American thing I have ever seen, yet it’s VERY popular here…
Wednesday:
This week we went ‘Canvasing’ Basically, we take a white board to the city square, write a question on it, and encourage people to respond by writing their thoughts on the board.
This week’s Question was: What blessings have you seen from God?
We got a fair amount of responses, less than usual as I understand it.
Our biggest success came from some British tourists who stopped to talk to us. We ended up giving them a copy of the Book of Mormon, in English, which I just happened to have in my bag. So cool! All in all, an amazing evening.
Thurs:
This is the amazing view from our apartment’s balcony.
One of my companions Elder Mitchell said “Red sky in the morning, missionaries take warning” Storm blew in later that day
Part one of Ancient ruins, this Roman amphitheater just sits underneath the town center.
I almost fell in!
Bulgairans invest a lot of money into two things: Shopping Malls and Parks.
This is the park closest to us. It’s a couple acres of straight forest surrounded on all sides by different stores and the city. Crazy! It’s so beautiful though and so nice to walk through and study in.
These Chestnut trees are everywhere, and the trees like to take people out by dropping chestnuts on them. They hurt. A lot.
Fri:
Bulgarian Bacon, or should I say Bekoh!
On Friday, we played soccer with the branch youth in the street! It was closed for construction, so we took advantage.
Elder Mitchel found a cat. My allergies proceeded to kill me all evening.
Bulgarian popcorn! or, Пуканки.
Pronounced: pu-KAHN-key
Part two of ancient ruins: We just got back from visiting a museum built around an ancient Bulgarian cathedral built on top of an ancient Roman temple built on top of a more ancient pagan worship structure. Man, that’s a mouthful.
There isn’t much left of any of the old structures except for these title mosaics that cover the floor.
This place was so cool. There was so much history and beauty here.
There were a ton of bird mosaics. No one knows why birds, but there are soooo many.
We also played with blocks. I love P day.
Turkish Lunch! I had lamb, which was actually really good.
We also got a ‘Puff’ Which is quite literally a puff of bread. Very good.
That just about wraps up my week! Until next Pday!! Have a wonderful week.
Proverbs 25:25
Elder Thornton.
