August 18, 2022We were joking the other day that the MTC is just like “Top Gun” for missionaries, only better because there is chocolate milk on tap!
We have class all day, play volleyball in the sand pit, have… interesting food, and sleep on bunk beds!
It’s the Lord’s campus and supercharger for missionaries. There’s a certain peace that abounds in the MTC. Everything from the lighting to the paintings and decorations points thoughts toward Christ. The spirit of the Lord flows so abundantly, it’s almost impossible not to feel.
Bulgarian class is going about as well as you think learning a language based in a Cyrillic alphabet would be.
Monday we learned how to conjugate verbs and all these crazy rules of grammar. I can’t wait until I can start to read in Bulgarian!
Our teachers are amazing, all RM’s from Bulgaria. They know their language really well, and are so excited to be here and to teach us! You can feel the love they have for the missionaries.
When I first got to the MTC, we had a big devotional with all that came in that day. There were over 540 missionaries, making the total in the MTC somewhere around 1,300. It was incredible!
The MTC president and his wife, Brother and Sister Porter, are amazing. They teach with the spirit and they’re so devoted to serving the Lord’s missionaries. It’s such a blessing to learn from them!
My branch president and his counselors are also awesome people. We’ve gotten to know them pretty well in the short time I’ve been here.
Sundays we meet in a large classroom for the sacrament, which I had the opportunity to help with last Sunday. It was Fast Sunday, so we had the opportunity to share our testimonies. Every single missionary got up to bear their testimony. It was so cool to see, even though we only got about 15 seconds each! The missionaries leaving gave their testimonies in their language. I can’t wait to be able to do that!
Every Tuesday we have the opportunity to attend a devotional taught by a General Authority. Usually its a member of the seventy that comes and teaches, but last night we had Elder Gerrit W. Gong come give us a message. It was amazing!!
Something happens in the atmosphere of a room when an apostle walks in. Such an amazing experience!
We had an amazing lesson from him and his wife, and I learned a lot about searching the scriptures. After the meeting we went around to talk to the missionaries. He was so excited to be there with us, and you could see it in his eyes. When he got to the first riser, he almost tripped trying to get to the elders, he was just so excited to get to talk with them! Such a neat experience to see a perfect Christ-like love!!
Wednesday is my Prep day, kinda like a day off. We get two hours of exercise time and we get to go to the Provo temple.
The Provo temple is a lot bigger than the Reno Temple, but it has the exact same atmosphere and feelings associated with it.
On prep days we get steak and BYU ice cream, which was amazing.
600 new missionaries came in just yesterday, and only 400 left, so we have about 200 more missionaries than before. Lunch is about to get real busy…
